Frequently Asked Questions
Pure copper (99.99%) no other metals or alloys are included.
It is important bowls are made from pure copper when used for enamelling as some enamels will react badly when applied over a copper alloy.
Pure copper is a commodity, and the cost of this raw material changes daily, this affects the pricing.
The cost worldwide of copper has risen significantly since previous orders were placed, as have the production costs with general inflation also playing a part.
It is not advisable to use pure copper bowls with food. Copper will react (especially with acidic foods and liquids such as tomatoes and fruit juices) to create toxic copper salts which will not only spoil the food but can also be seriously harmful to human or animal health. These bowls are not designed for food use.
These bowls are made for use by the enamelling community and are sold as raw copper unpolished bowls for enamelling. As such they are a "raw" material that has been formed for use.
They may have slight lines and marks remaining on them from the manufacturing process.
As of September 2025, I am no longer selling copper bowls directly via this site. I am choosing to focus my energies on teaching and my own enamelling practice. Student's attending my courses will be able to use some of my copper bowls when learning to enamel with me at Rainbow Glass Studios or other educational or craft events where I am teaching.
Thank you for your understanding,
Best wishes Eleanor
