Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are these bowls made from?Pure copper (99.99%) no other metals or alloys are included. We use 0.9mm - 1.0mm sheet so the final gauge of our bowls is thicker than some other suppliers and of a heavier quality. This helps reduce warping when enamelled. It is important bowls are made from pure copper when used for enamelling as some enamels will react badly when applied over a copper alloy.
-
When are orders sent out?For orders received by 12.00 midday on Thursdays, every effort will be made to send your bowl order out to you the same weekend. For all orders received after this weekly deadline, they will be the dispatched at the end of the following week.
-
What if the bowl I want is out of stock? Please send me a message via the website letting me know which bowl number you require and I will let you know estimated times of arrival if the bowl is already on order. Some bowls are more popular than others, but you can use a "notify me when back in stock" option from the page where the bowl is listed and this will let me know you await that bowl (and prompt an order when I have sufficient numbers waiting). Thank you.
-
Why do bowl prices differ from time to time?Pure copper is a commodity, and the cost of this raw material changes daily, this affects the pricing. The cost worldwide of copper has risen significantly since previous orders were placed, as have the production costs and general inflation also plays a part.
-
Can we supply custom-sized copper bowls? If you require a custom-sized bowl to be made or you need a larger bowl for other purposes, please contact me with details including: The diameter of the bowl The height (or depth) in "mm" Please include a through-section diagram of the shape ( i.e. straight sides? curved sides, any other features such as a foot / base?) if you are able. And the quantity you require. I will get back to you after discussion with the workshop. Please note: individually commissioned bowls will require a completely new mould form to be made. This takes time as well as incurring additional costs for the form itself. to be made. Thank you.
-
Why are these pure copper bowls unsuitable for food use?It is not advisable to use pure copper bowls with food. Copper will react (especially with acidic foods and liquids such as tomatoes and fruit juices) to create toxic copper salts which will not only spoil the food but can also be seriously harmful to human or animal health. These bowls are not designed for food use.
-
Why aren't these bowls highly polished? Why are there faint lines or marks? These bowls are made for use by the enamelling community and are sold as raw copper unpolished bowls for enamelling. As such they are a "raw" material that has been formed for use. They may have lines and marks remaining on them from the manufacturing process. If you are unsure as to the suitability of using one of these bowls for another purpose, please contact me before buying so we can discuss and I will advise. Thank you.
-
I used to buy other bowl forms from Pat, why aren't they listed? Some bowls are currently out of stock and awaiting new deliveries which can take 6 - 8 weeks. Other bowl "mould forms" are past their best and on the advice of the workshop now need new forms made. This applies to bowls of similar shape, but differing heights: 4A and 4B PJB 8A, 8B and 8C 12A, 12B and 12C 21A, 21B and 21C. This process takes time and represents a significant financial re-investment. If you require a specific bowl, please be in touch and I will advise. Thank you.
-
Can I collect in person?Unfortunately, we cannot offer collection in person as the bowl stock is not held at Rainbow Glass Studios. Please place your order through the website, and the total weight will be calculated and your bowls posted to you directly. Thank you.
-
Will you be at the Guild of Enameller's conference?Yes, I will be there (but not as a supplier). Please come and say hello and introduce yourself. Thank you.
